Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Vienna, Austria for Aug. 8-10 were canceled due to a planned terrorist attack on the concerts. The planned attack was uncovered by Austrian authorities who soon after arrested three teenage suspects on Aug. 8 for planning an Islamist attack in Vienna, with the Eras Tour shows being the main focus.
Many people over the world heard about the shows getting canceled through social media and the news, but Swift chose to not speak on the situation until after she finished out the European leg of her tour. Sophomore Reagan Comerford is a fan of Swift’s music and has gone to the Eras tour. She has heard lots about this situation.
“I would be upset that my show got canceled, but I’m still relieved that everyone is safe,” Comerford said.
Many people who were planning on going to those shows were disappointed that they got canceled at the last minute. But Comerford explains how she is just relieved that no one was harmed, and that Swift can continue on with the rest of the tour.
“I feel fine about Taylor continuing her shows because I know she will make the right precautions to keep people safe,” Comerford said
As scary as it probably was right after the threats, Swift continued to perform at her London shows, and will continue back with the rest of her tour in October.
“I think Taylor handled herself really well and I hope all performers act like she did when she found out people were in danger,” Comerford said.
After completing the shows in London, Swift addressed the situation on her Instagram account. She made the decision to wait, which some say was a smart decision, while others think she should have addressed it sooner.
“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to,” Swift said in her Instagram post after the London shows.
Swift’s Instagram post brought more attention to this situation, because some people still did not hear about what happened. Sophomore Elizabeth Vranich, who isn’t a fan of Swift, but she has heard about this all through social media and Swift’s Instagram post.
“I feel that if Taylor is comfortable and sure that she is no longer threatened that the shows should definitely go on to prove to the world she will not hide from these problems or let them get to her,” Vranich said. So, although three of the shows were canceled at the beginning of August, Swift will continue on the Eras Tour, and hopefully will not come across any more threats or problems.
