Recently, there was an incident where a woman named Kanokporn Tangsuan died from an allergic reaction while eating peanuts at a restaurant in Disney World. Her husband, Jeffery Piccolo, filed a lawsuit against Disney, the owners, and workers in the restaurant because they assured the couple it did not have peanuts multiple times.
Piccolo tried to sue for $50,000, but Disney said the lawsuit wouldn’t be allowed in court because of the Disney + streaming service that required him to agree to their terms and conditions in 2019, according to NBC news. This means that because he paid and contracted with the streaming service, they were unable to sue Disney.
The situation got attention mainly from social media like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. The platforms were in a rage about the whole story and shared their opinions.
“I will not support Disney on this matter because it was a mistake that took someone’s life away and it is unacceptable, they should have been more careful,” Gabriela Tiberi said.
People may see Disney as a wonderful place and all, but there are some downsides of it too.
“Every amusement park has some danger in it, and Disney is a part of the conversation. They may make it seem like this magical place but there’s always a dark side to any park,” Lola McDaniel said.
After the incident, some people have decided to remove their Disney + membership. Most people aren’t on Disney’s side about the whole story and removed the membership in case something bad could happen to them.
“I will be getting rid of my Disney + membership because although it has been great to grow up with Disney, that ride is over, and it will never be the same so it’s time to move on and grow up,” Tiberi said.
Disney makes a lot of money from the amount of people that visit the park every year. So, Disney gave Piccolo a little bit of money from their mistake; it wouldn’t hurt, and it could help him recover.
“Disney is in the wrong because Disney is a multi billion dollar company and this man just lost his wife. It doesn’t matter how much money, but they should try and help the man after what he’s been through,” McDaniel said.
Tangsuan checked multiple times if her food was safe for her to eat and the workers told her it was peanut free. The workers might have made a small mistake but it took someone’s life and got a lot of people’s attention.
“Disney was in the wrong because she checked to make sure the food was safe to eat and then they brought out food she was severely allergic to, accident or not,” Tiberi said.
