In The Know: A glance at the school’s trivia club

The Orange In The Know Team is back in action this year, with their first practice concluding on Oct. 9, 2023. Junior Matt Wang scored 280 points in his season debut, with other new faces adding on more as Orange looks to compete amongst other schools in the region.

“In the Know is such a fun and competitive environment,” sophomore Savya Majmudar said. Last year’s leading scorer. Savya is returning to the team, which went far into the playoffs last year only to come up short in the semifinals versus Grove City.

In the Know is a trivia club, with teams answering questions about history, math, science, art, pop culture and more. Players earn points for every answer, competing at first internally during practices and then versus other squads.

“I’d say I’m very excited this year,” Majmudar said. “We had a great season last year and I’m going to enjoy coming back and competing against some really good teams. For me personally, it’s very motivating.”

Students see In the Know as a way to enhance and strengthen their academic skills. While luck plays an important role in the game, some questions can be extremely difficult. Questions range from easy five-pointers to obscure 20 pointers, and every single one tests a different part of the competitor’s brain. Plus, according to Majmudar, it’s a great time.

“I’d say that last year we had an excellent team,” Majmudar said. “It was just a really fun time. If you choose to compete, you should do it with some friends. It makes it really fun.”

In the Know is televised on WOSU. Starting last year, each school sends their leading scorer to the competition to compete against other top-scorers. It is a chance for students to showcase their abilities, while enjoying a higher level of competition. Last year, Majmudar went to the competition.

“It was a good experience,” Majmudar said. “I think it was pretty cool to be on TV. I’d like to do it again, and it’d be great if someone else played well enough to get up there.”

This year, Orange hopes to reprise their 2022-23 success. With new faces and veterans like Majmudar returning, the team remains optimistic about their chances of winning games against other schools.

“I believe in this team,” said Majmudar. “We welcome anyone who wants to play. I’m sure that everyone will have a role in our success this year. I can’t wait to see what we do.”
