Four years later, after Finney Blake escaped the Grabber, he finally could sleep in peace. However, evil doesn’t die, and not all phones stay disconnected.

The new “Black Phone 2” movie first premiered on Friday, Oct. 17. This continued after the original movie was released in June 2022.

In my opinion, I thought the movie was extremely thrilling and enjoyable and felt as if I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I went with one of my friends on Oct. 19, and we both agreed that it was a step up from the last movie.

For context, the original “Black Phone” is about a teenage boy named Finney who gets kidnapped by a masked man called the Grabber and locked in a soundproof basement. He discovers a disconnected black phone that lets him talk to the Grabber’s past victims, who help him fight back and eventually escape.

There is a certain level of controversy surrounding the new movie, especially regarding the character development between the two movies.

The main character, Finney Blake, has undergone significant character development throughout the new movie. People perceive him as courageous, protective and resilient.

There have been multiple circumstances where he has shown incredible courage against the antagonist. In both movies, he is constantly trying to fight against the Grabber, and he shows tremendous strength and improvement through both.

Throughout the duration of the second movie, the characters were at a camp, and there was a black phone outside of the cabin, which would ring, and Finney would answer it. Even though Finney knew that it was the Grabber, he would consistently go back outside and answer the phone, even though it may have been dangerous, which shows courage.

Secondly, he is a very protective older brother towards his younger sister, Gwen Blake. Gwen constantly gets these surreal dreams that she can actually get physically hurt from, and Finney will stay up late at night to make sure she won’t have another episode or dream.

Lastly, Finney has been seen as resilient by viewers of the show. He provides demonstrations of this resilience throughout both movies, exceptionally in the new movie, by not giving up fighting away the Grabber and persevering through all of the challenges and obstacles thrown in his direction.

Another character that has shown extraordinary progression is Gwen. Gwen has shown determination, strength, and bravery. She has shown extreme development through all of the battles that were set in her way.

She was determined to fight off all of the horrifying dreams that were taking over her mind, and she eventually did by the end. Gwen was determined, using her visions and determination to protect others and face the lingering dangers of the Grabber.

Another character trait that she developed over the course of the movie is strength. No matter how scared or pressured she felt, she did everything she needed to do to save herself and the people around her.

Most importantly, her bravery had a major impact on the dynamic of the movie. She would use her dreams to tell her things from the future in order to protect other individuals, and whenever there was something wrong and she knew that, she would fix it immediately, showing extreme bravery to not only save herself, but her brother and the other people that were at the camp at that time.

To conclude, both of these characters showed significant growth in the sequels of the movies. Many opinions continue to arise as the movie continues to premiere in theaters, but many, including myself, believe this movie was very outstanding and taught many lessons that people may overlook. If I were to rate the movie out of 10, I would rate it an eight out of 10.
