Every team needs a leader, and senior Anna Wilming is just that. Leading the softball team both during the game and outside of practice, Wilming is the leader every team strives for.

“Anna is a good leader because she holds high standards, is caring, and looks out for other. Anna also puts in the work when no one is watching, which also makes her a great player,” Intervention Specialist and Varsity Assistant Coach Kelly Ness said.

Softball has always been a big part of Wilming’s life, starting from a very young age.

“I started playing softball for a local recreational league called NCIL when I was 4 years old. I started playing because my sister played her entire childhood and I grew up around it. My dad coached her teams growing up, so then it was just right for me to start,” Wilming said.

While softball may only be a sport for some student athletes, Wilming has shown that softball is much more than that to her.

“My favorite part of softball is the adrenaline rush that I get from playing, regardless of if it is practice or a game. Sometimes, I have to learn when to calm down, but it is such a great escape for me,” Wilming said.

Wilming’s love for the sport and leadership skills have not gone unnoticed. The coaching staff for Orange’s softball program see and utilize Anna’s leadership skills every moment they can.

“Anna’s contribution to the program has helped to make the program what it is today. She has become a leader on and off the field. She helped lead the team to a district final last year and continues to make positive impacts on the team everyday,” Ness said.

Wilming has not always been a leader here at Orange. She moved here her sophomore year of high school. Moving to a new school can be tough for any student, but Wilming saw the move as an opportunity rather than an inconvenience.

“I don’t have a very hard time meeting and bonding with new people, so finding new friends in my classes and in public around there was really easy for me. The best part of it was meeting so many softball and baseball players during my junior year and taking advantage of the similarities we all had,” Wilming said.

Whether it’s in the dugout cheering her teammates on, or on the mound leading her team to a district final, Orange is lucky to have a leader like Anna Wilming.
