Whether you’re at a high level sporting event or your local middle school baseball game, you’ve probably come across a concession stand at some time or another. When you’re choosing the perfect snack to get you through the rest of your game or spectating, you want to be sure that you’re making the right decision.
Concession stands offer many different snack and sometimes food options including items like candy, pretzels, pizza, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, drinks, et cetera. If all that you have is the $5 that your mom gave you before you left the house, making sure you use it wisely is essential.
“I think the most popular food is definitely hotdogs, and for snacks, it’s either candy or popcorn. Both are choices that people grab without even thinking twice!” former concession stand worker and team mom, Christi Tompkins said.
Some opinions do align with parts of Tompkins statement, like sophomore Alina Walton’s favorite snack being sour patch kids. However, the idea of popcorn being a popular choice could vary depending on who you talk to.
“My least favorite [item] is popcorn because it’s overrated and has no flavor,” Sophomore, concession stand enthusiast Alina Walton said.
Considering the opinions of the concession stand workers may not have been something to have previously crossed your mind however. Sometimes there can be a lot of stress and inconveniences when it comes to preparing certain foods.
“[I don’t enjoy serving] pulled chicken sandwiches. They’re super messy to make and serve. It feels like way more hassle than it’s worth during a busy rush,” Tompkins said.
So you may be wondering what the best, most filling option at a concession stand might be. It’s safe to say that skittles or twizzlers probably wouldn’t suffice when you are feeling more than peckish.
“I think nachos are one of the most underrated items. They’re inexpensive, easy to share, filling, and always taste good, but people tend to overlook them for things like hotdogs or candy,” Tompkins said.
Though sometimes you might just be looking for something to wash down your choice of snacks in a refreshing beverage. Mrs. Tompkins said that her favorite concession beverage is a diet coke, but not all concession stands may have that.
“My favorite drink is sprite,” Walton said.
Hopefully a sprite or other refreshment can satisfy your need for a drink and wash down your snack stand experience. Always be prepared to make the important decision of what to get at the concession stand.
