With winter break quickly approaching and midterms just around the corner, plans and schedules for what people are going to do in their time away from school are being finalized. With so many fun ideas of what to do in the time period of two weeks off, it is always nice to take a look into how others will spend their breaks.
A popular way to spend winter break is by traveling, especially travel to somewhere with warmer weather. For this holiday season, around 54 million passengers will be traveling by plane between the dates of Dec. 19, and Jan. 6, according to Airlines for America.
“I normally go to Florida over winter break and play a lot of golf. Sadly, I’m not able to go this year,” Study Hall Monitor Karen Cahill said.
An extra fun way to bring holiday spirit to the household is by baking and decorating cookies. By adding personalized designs as well as creating multiple colors and flavors of frosting, no two cookies will look, or taste the same!
“We usually spend a day making all different kinds of Christmas cookies,” sophomore Corinne Case said.
Christmas Eve is a perfect time to make cozy plans with family. Whether it is matching Christmas pj’s, going to church or even just watching holiday movies, it is fun to spend time and celebrate with family, according to Postable.
“We are going to church on Christmas Eve, then to dinner at the new Spaghetti Warehouse downtown. It sits on the Columbus Commons so we will be able to enjoy the Christmas lights,” Cahill said.
A major delight of winter break is the aspect of not having to wake up early for school and getting to sleep in. Getting to relax more often throughout the day and also separate from learning is a great way to reset the brain and body as well as prepare the mind for the rest of the school year.
“I’m excited to sleep in and to spend time with friends and family,” Case said.
Winter break also signifies the end of one year, and the start of another. New Year’s Eve has many fun traditions to participate in to bring in good luck for the upcoming year. Some exciting celebrations include eating 12 grapes, smashing a plate, color-coding underwear or, most popular, making a New Year’s Resolution to keep for the year, according to Good Housekeeping.
“I usually stay at home on New Year’s Eve and watch football. I will be going to my daughter’s house on New Year’s Day for pork and sauerkraut for good luck in the New Year!” Cahill said.
