With the holidays quickly approaching there are so many places to visit and ideas to be brought to life. Because there are many holiday-specific activities to join in throughout the season, it is hard to find a pastime that suits everyone.

Farms are big family stops during the fall and winter seasons. From being pumpkin farms during the season surrounding Halloween to harvesting Christmas trees for creating traditions throughout the Christmas season, family farms hold a lot of festivity for families.

“My favorite place to go during the winter season is the Christmas tree farm because it always makes Christmas feel real and it smells like Christmas,” sophomore Reagan Comerford said.

Celebrating throughout the season with family is a fun way to bring memories and spread festivity. A fun, festive activity is Christmas tree farms, some in the area include Cackler Family Farms, HTH Christmas Tree Lot and Taylor Christmas Tree Farm and Landscape.

“We also have two Christmas trees, a real one and a fake one. The real one is more sentimental and doesn’t look quite as pretty but means more and then the fake one is more formal and cohesive of a theme,” Science Teacher Alexandra Van Echo said.

Gift exchanges with family, friends, teammates and more are joyful ways to celebrate with loved ones throughout the holiday season. Secret Santa and White Elephant are two popular gift exchanges for the holidays and create bonds between those participating, according to White Elephant Online.

“I’ve done white elephant with my entire family, and it was really fun because there were so many gift options. It was funny to see what everyone got and how people who trade with others,” Comerford said.

Gift exchanges can be hard to shop for, especially if there don’t seem to be any good ideas on what to get. Some fun, festive gift ideas include ugly Christmas sweaters, funny socks and any personalized items.

“For gifts, I really love shopping at UncommonGoods. They have a lot of unique things, especially for people who have specific interests. I also like going to Target for decorations. I try to buy stuff I know I’m going to use for a long time,” Van Echo said.

Shopping for the holidays, whether it’s for gifts, decorations or even something for oneself, is a fun and exciting way to welcome the approaching holiday season. Almost all stores carry at least some festive items during the holiday season, the majority of which will have Black Friday sales for holiday shopping.

“My favorite place to shop during Christmas time is probably TJ Maxx because they have cute Christmas decorations, blankets and candles, but they also have a good variety of gifts that you can get for your loved ones,” Comerford said.

Popular activities throughout winter include ice skating, skiing, sledding and snowboarding. All activities have to do with cold, snowy weather and are entertaining and festive, according to The Pioneer Woman.

“I prefer skiing but I haven’t been able to go in a really long time. I only really like it when there’s lots of fresh snow, so I don’t think I’ve seen that lately. I love skiing because it’s straightforward and I don’t feel like I have a high risk of getting hurt,” Van Echo said.
