A heart as big as her career
Dolly Parton had a lasting impact on people across the nation. Parton was a singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman. She unfortunately passed away due to cancer on Aug. 25, although her legacy continues to inspire others.
Parton had some hit songs, including “Jolene” and “Nine to Five”. These two touching songs gained fame for their raw honesty, universal pain and catchy rhythms.
“‘Nine to Five’ is a really good, inspiring song, along with ‘Jolene’ and ‘Here You Come Again,’ which are both really good songs as well and have such a deep meaning,” AP Psychology and Modern World History Teacher Brooke Sandy said.
Parton donated over $500 million to charitable causes and organizations throughout her lifetime. From the website, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Parton created the Dollywood Foundation in 1995, which gave 300 million free books to children of all ages.
“All she ever did was show positivity. She did a lot of charity work and made her way up and overall brought a lot of positivity to others,” Social Studies Teacher Kevin Haynes said.
She used her famous platform to unite people rather than separate them, which allowed people to universally connect with her at a more profound level.
“Dolly is an all-around, good human; she was always authentic in what she likes, her beliefs, her sound and the way she always stuck to it. She additionally chose to use her wealth to give back to her community,” Sandy said.
Furthermore, Parton collaborated with many different artists and musicians, including well-known celebrities like Kenny Rogers and Miley Cyrus.
“If I could tell or ask Dolly one thing, it would definitely be what artist was her favorite to have collaborated with and let her know just how much of an influence she had on others across the nation,” Haynes said.
