The high school has multiple senior traditions for students to participate in before they graduate. With activities from painting parking spots to watching the sunrise, every senior can find a tradition that is important to them.
Senior traditions are not only important for highlighting the seniors and all the work they’ve put in, but they’re also a way for seniors to celebrate the fact that they’ve come this far. These traditions are also a good way for seniors to bond with their peers before graduating.
“I try to participate in the traditions, so I can maximize my experience as a senior and be able to say I had so much fun in my last year of high school,” senior Danielle Drayer said.
One important way to participate is just staying up-to-date with the senior events and being aware of when they’re happening. These traditions are a good way for seniors to have fun before graduating and really make senior year something to remember. Senior traditions are also a great way to bond with friends before leaving for college or whatever else comes after high school. Important senior events can be found on the class cabinets Instagram, @oohsclasscabinet2027.
“You participate in senior traditions by staying up-to-date with all of the things you can go to and having fun with your friends,” senior Claire Ditty said. “Senior year, I’m looking forward to bonding with all my friends and living in the moment for our last year altogether.”
One of the most important traditions is the senior parking spots. Painting is an opportunity that allows students to express themselves and paint a design that is special to them. Additionally, they get to park closer to school, which can be very helpful on cold or rainy days.
“Yes, I did paint a spot, and my design was related to the show ‘Avatar, the Last Airbender’ as a tribute to one of my favorite TV shows since I was a kid,” Drayer said.
Additionally, if students choose to paint a spot, it allows them to have something they truly enjoy. Actually painting the spots can also be a fun way to hang out with friends while painting spots together, and it can be a good way to make sure seniors can park by their friends every day.
“I did paint a parking spot, and I chose to do a coffee design because I love coffee,” Ditty said.
Another one of the most well known traditions is senior shootout. Senior shootout allows seniors to bond with friends and have fun outside of school, while also having some friendly competition between classmates. Additionally, the winners of senior shootout can win a cash prize.
“I’m honestly excited for senior tag because it seems like a fun way to bond with your friends and your senior class in a friendly, competitive way,” Drayer said.
The first semester has lots of senior events scheduled. Some of the most important ones are senior Thanksgiving where all the seniors gather and eat Thanksgiving food together, which is Nov. 18, and senior sunrise, which is when all the seniors get together and watch the sun come up. There are senior traditions all throughout the school year, so no matter how busy the different seasons may be, seniors can always be able to find an event to attend. Another tradition is the hallway decorating contest. Each year leading up to the homecoming dance, each grade has a hallway they get to decorate, and the seniors have won this contest every year.
“Some senior traditions are things like senior Thanksgiving, senior sunrise, senior breakfast and other events around the year,” Ditty said.
While most seniors are excited for graduation, it’s important to also enjoy the last year of high school. Graduating is exciting, but so is senior year, and it’s important to make memories and enjoy it as much as possible.
“Senior traditions are important in my opinion because it allows for seniors to find a way to make their last year of high school memorable,” Drayer said.
