Valentine’s Day creates the season of love filled with chocolate, flowers, Valentine’s Day dates and most importantly Valentine’s Day movies. February is the perfect time to watch heartfelt romantic comedies with friends, family and significant others. Here is a list of rom coms to watch this Valentine’s Day.

  1. “How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days”

“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” was released in 2003 and stars Kate Hudson as Andie Anderson and Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin Barry. Andie is a journalist who is trying to write a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days and Benjamin is trying to prove he can get anyone to fall in love with him in 10 days. They are unaware they are paired with each other, which sets the stage for a fun-loving romantic comedy that viewers can enjoy with anyone on Valentine’s Day.

  1. “10 Things I Hate About You”

Released in 1999, “10 Things I Hate About You” is a teen romantic comedy and stems from William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The two leads, Patrick Verona and Kat Stratford, are played by Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. This movie is a classic that is popular for the actors’ memorable performances and its take on a Shakespearean play. It shows two people who are very different from one another connecting regardless of their differences.

“The Notebook” is an amazing film that pulls at the heartstrings. The romantic drama was released in 2004 with Ryan Gosling playing Noah Calhoun and Rach McAdams as Allie Hamilton. “27 Dresses”, a romantic comedy released in 2008 directed by Anne Fletcher and stars Katherine Heigl and James Marsden. Jane Nichols, played by Fletcher, is sought after by a journalist played by Marsden because she is notorious for being a bridesmaid. The movie shows the growth of their relationship from strictly professional to bonding as friends and more. “27 Dresses” is hilarious, heartwarming and filled with love and self-growth. It is perfect for all times, especially Valentine’s Day.

A romantic comedy based on the book series by Jenny Han, “To All The Boys I Loved Before” is a teen movie directed by Susan Johnson. It follows the story of Laura Jean Covey, a teen who is the middle child of two sisters. She writes secret love letters to the guys she has feelings for but unfortunately for her they get sent out. Her life gets more complicated when her sister’s boyfriend is the recipient of one of the letters. This is a sweet story of a girl finding herself and bonding with her family and it is a great movie to watch for Valentine’s Day.

“Five Feet Apart” follows the journey of two teens who have cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that affects the digestive system and lungs. The two teens, Stella Grant and Will Newman are very different when it comes to behaving in the hospital. Stella is a disciplined patient while Will is rebellious. Their condition forces them to be six feet apart but after they form a stronger connection, the boundary gets harder to follow. For those who enjoy the movie, released in 201,9 can read the novel written by Rachael Lippincott.

“The Kissing Booth” released in 2018 follows the complicated life of Elle Evans. Elle has a best friend Lee who has been by her side their entire lives. However, Elle developed feelings for his older brother Noah. But due to the rules she and Lee made when they were kids, Elle can’t date him. This movie is filled with friendship, love, laughter and arcades. This is also the first of three movies in the series directed by Vince Marcello based on the novel by Beth Reekles.

   “The Proposal” directed by Anne Fletcher who is also the director of “27 Dresses” was released in 2009 starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The movie follows Margaret Tate played by Bullock who is a book editor from Canada who is about to be deported due to an expired visa. However, she convinced her assistant Andrew Paxton played by Reynolds to have a fake relationship and marry her so she can stay in the United States. The movie follows their fake relationship that begins to turn into something more real.

The last movie on this list, “Valentine’s Day” was released in 2010 and is directed by Garry Marshall. This movie is different from the others on this list because it follows many different interconnected stories that occur on Valentine’s Day that show that the day of love is different from everyone. The movie follows a couple debating their love, a man who just proposed but is having complications, a soldier traveling back to Los Angeles and a woman who is alone on Valentine’s Day as well as a young couple. This movie is perfect for anyone no matter their relationship status and it is a great movie to watch on Valentine’s Day no matter who it is watched with.
