A guide to this year’s Halloween: Top five things to do with friends and family

With Halloween right around the corner, there’s no better way to celebrate the holiday than a list of my top five favorite festive things to do in the Fall. From apple picking to pumpkin carving, there are countless ways to celebrate the Autumn season.

5. Apple Picking

Although I’ve never actually gone apple picking myself, from the pictures I’ve seen and what my friends have said it’s definitely worth considering. There are a lot of places close to Orange that you could visit like Freeman’s and Leeds farm. Apple picking is a great opportunity to hang out with your friends, take pictures, and dress up in fall outfits.

4. Pumpkin Patch

I’ve gone to the pumpkin patch every fall since I was little with my family, and it’s one of my favorite festive activities. There are plenty to choose from around the Lewis Center area like Leeds farm and Lehner’s Pumpkin Farm. With activities ranging from hayrides to corn mazes, it’s easy to stay entertained all day at a pumpkin patch. There are also a lot of cute pumpkins to choose from that you can bring home, which leads me to my next activity.

3. Pumpkin Carving

After visiting the pumpkin patch, what else would you do with your pumpkins besides carve them? One search on pinterest and you will find plenty of designs ranging from super easy to almost impossible. Once you get over the gross pumpkin smell and texture, pumpkin carving is super fun to do with your friends, or you can make it a family activity as well. If you’re not into carving or want an activity for younger kids, you could paint pumpkins instead.

2. Trick or Treating

Although it may be viewed as boring to go trick or treating the older you get, I think it’s the perfect way to spend your Halloween. You can dress up in whatever costume you want, and go door to door getting candy. There’s no better way to spend your after school time than trick or treating. If you’re not into trick or treating, you can still join in on the fun by passing out candy to other trick or treaters.

1. Haunted houses

Finally, my personal favorite fall activity is going to haunted houses. If you are into Halloween and everything scary, haunted houses are the perfect spots for you. There are a number of haunted houses to choose from like Haunted Hoochie or Fear Columbus. Drag your friends out with you and spend a late night at a haunted house running from monsters and hanging with your friends.

Whether you are into scary activities or hanging out in nature, there are a variety of activities you can choose from to make your fall season better.
