The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a record-breaking season this year. They won their first 15 games of the season and currently have a record of 22-4. This winning streak is the longest in Cavaliers franchise history.

Sophomore Kylie Perone has watched many Cavs games this season. She plays for the varsity girls basketball team and can recognize talent on the court.

“I would say the biggest influence is Donovan Mitchell,” Perone said.

Mitchell averages around 23 points per game this season and handles the ball with ease, according to ESPN. Junior Garrett Peterson agreed with how great of an impact Mitchell has had this season. Peterson follows many teams in the NBA, but he has specifically noticed the Cavs success this season.

“They are definitely working together and working more as a team compared to past years,” Peterson said.

According to ESPN, the Cavs are averaging 28 assists per game this season, demonstrating the strength of their teamwork. Perone has watched the Cavs for many years. However, this year she noticed changes in the Cavs offense and movement on the court from past years.

“I feel like the Cavs are using different offensive strategies such as more pick and rolls and are using transitions really well to get more points than previous years,” Perone said.

Their increase in opportunities near the basket has brought the team their success this season. However, Peterson is aware that every strong team will face adversity in the season.

“They will have their biggest matchup against the Lakers on New Year’s Eve,” Peterson said.

The few losses and upcoming challenging games are what will make the Cavs even stronger than they already are. This season has not only built the Cavaliers players’ confidence but also players across the country.

“They inspire me to want the most out of myself and be a leader in all things I do,” Peterson said.

The Cavs success has encouraged so many athletes, including some of the Pioneers. They have had a remarkable season and the adversity they have faced will be the key to succeeding through the rest of the season.
