‘Outer Banks Season 5’

Probably The Worst Season Yet

The fifth and final season of the series “Outer Banks” came out on Aug. 20,  and it has always been a show full of adventure, drama, friendships and unexpected twists.

I really enjoyed the earlier season because they had a good balance of everything. However, based on how the show has developed, I personally think Season 5 is the worst season out of the entire series.

One reason for this is because the story has been taken and strung out too far. When “Outer Banks” first started, I liked how the main story was the Pogues searching for treasure while also dealing with the feud between Pogues and Kooks.

As the season went on, the story became more and more complicated. To me, it sometimes feels like the writers were trying to make everything bigger and crazier instead of focusing on the thing that originally made me love and have interest in the show.

I also feel like the characters have changed quite a bit. In the first season, the Pogues felt like a real group of friends who were always there for each other. Their friendship was one of my favorite parts of the show.

Now, it seems like there is constant arguing with each other and disagreements. I know that drama is one the big parts of “Outer Banks”, but sometimes I feel like there is too much drama that it takes away from the friendships that really made the show what it is now.

Another reason I feel like Season 5 could be the worst season is that it doesn’t have the same feeling as Season 1. Personally, the first season was the most exciting because there was so much mystery.

I was discovering everything along with the characters, which made me want to keep watching. Now, some of the storylines feel like they are more focused on shocking the audience than actually making sense.

For me, that makes the show less enjoyable. I know some people might completely disagree with me.

Now that I’ve finished watching Season 5, my concerns about the final season were mostly justified although  there were still exciting moments and the Pogues eventually got the happy ending they had been fighting for ever since they had the gold stolen from them in Season 1.

The season moved even further away from what originally made me love “Outer Banks”.The story became more focused on revenge, JJ’s death, the blue crown and traveling around the world rather than the mystery, treasure hunting and friendships that made the earlier seasons enjoyable.

One of the biggest things that affected the change in the show was the death of JJ. Now, I understand that JJ’s death had to happen due to off screen decisions, but I feel like losing such an important part of the Pogues changed the whole dynamic of the group. The season spent so much focusing on getting revenge against Groff for killing JJ that they really forgot about the other key parts in the show.

Overall, I still appreciate the ending and the fact that the Pogues finally got some closure. John B and Sarah got married and had their baby. Kiara moved forward with her dream of becoming a marine biologist, Pope and Cleo ended up together, and the Pogues were able to rebuild their lives in the Outer Banks after hurricane Cassandra hit.

However, even with a satisfying ending, Season 5 was the weakest and worst season of the series. While watching Season 5, I missed the feeling of the earlier seasons, when the mystery and friendships were the center of the story. “Outer Banks” ended on a positive note, but for me, it never fully recapture what made the beginning of the series so special. I would give “Outer Banks” a 3/5 stars.
