In a bold move this year to amplify student voices and to help extend the reach of the journalism program, a new radio show was launched called “Orange in The Morning,” which airs weekly on WPLP the Pulp.

The new show, spearheaded by sophomore Taylor Lambert, covers various topics in the news, pop culture, sports, music, and other various categories. Episodes feature a blend of school and global news, occasional student interviews, personal opinions on current events, and relaxed conversations about what’s happening in the world.

The hosting team includes Taylor Lambert, Jazmyne Prince, and myself. Episodes are planned, scripted, and recorded during the period one journalism class in the radio room. Originally, the show was specifically about sports, but as time went on, the format shifted to distinguish it from Orange Sports Live and allow for more diverse content.

A standout feature of the show is the way each host’s personality comes through using only audio. Without video elements, the team relies solely on coval energy and conversational tone to entertain and inform, setting it apart from visual segments on The Juice. One of the difficulties about this, however, is that there’s not always a lot to talk about.

With a small production team of just three students, gathering enough content for each episode can be a challenge. To keep the show fresh and engaging, the format has evolved to include broader topics and more student interviews.

The show is broadcasted on WPLP the Pulp and each episode is posted on Mixlr after recording. Episodes usually come out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays depending on the school schedule and other factors.

With microphones on and ideas flowing, the journalism program is making waves on the air, offering a hands-on experience and a platform for student-led storytelling.
