Valentine’s Day has been a special day where people are able to show their love to one another for many years. Everyday lives can get hectic and it’s easy to not prioritize time with loved ones. But on Feb. 14, spending time with loved ones is the number one priority while showing affection towards one another.

Being able to go somewhere like to a nice dinner, going on a drive, watching a movie or even staying home is essential to foster deeper connections with significant others. But a downside to Valentine’s Day is if individuals are single, the day can be lonely. The feeling of inadequacy and loneliness can be overwhelming on a widely broadcasted day of love.

Many people constantly want or are in search of a relationship, and Valentine’s Day simply intensifies these feelings, according to wjpitch.com.

An alternative for those who are not in a relationship is Galentine’s Day, spending the day with friends and showing affection towards them. While some may argue that it does little to hide the fact that they are single, however, the day is about showing and receiving love in general, no matter who it is.

Regardless of the relationship status, it is important to take care of oneself and prioritize self love. Engaging in activities that promote self-reflection, self-expression and self-indulgence can nurture a positive sense of self-worth and fulfilment, according to facefactsresearch.com.

There’s no doubt that Valentine’s day can be viewed as a commercialized holiday. So many romantic places to go, like dinner or the movies, to the many items that are popular on the day, like flowers or chocolates, a lot of revenue is made.

In 2023, consumers spent an estimated $25.9 billion just on Valentine’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation.

There is no getting away from the holiday because of all the heart balloons, abundance of chocolates and pink and red all around. Although Valentine’s Day is a commercialized holiday, many businesses can make a lot of profit from the day and some even depend on the day like florist shops or places like Hallmark.

Commercialized or not, Valentine’s Day is an excuse to be with loved ones, why waste an opportunity to celebrate? The day doesn’t require tons of effort and lots of money spent. Cooking and watching a movie at home is a perfectly sufficient day or anything involving spending time with each other. But the most important part to this day is love, whether it’s self love, loved ones or friends.
