With semester one coming to an end, students begin to cram and study their notes to retain as much information as possible. If given more time and with more effort there are better ways to study for important exams such as midterms.

The most effective ways to set the stage for studying are to get a good night’s rest, switch up the study environment, stick with an environment that works for you, eliminate distractions and snack on smart brain food. Studying takes a lot of concentration which requires the least amount of distractions as possible according to usa.edu.

Another effective way of studying is to reread and especially rewrite the notes which allows your brain to register the information better. The three things to keep in mind while studying for something important are 1. Prepare 2. Attend 3. Review according to cgs.pitt.edu.

According to web.wlu.ca every student is going to apply different strategies of studying based on their learning style, the styles are audio, visual, reading/writing and kinesthetic. It is difficult for students to all share the same strategies based on the difference of learning styles they may express in themselves.

Although the first thing students tend to do is read their textbook and their notes over and over, it is not helping the student to retain the information that they are reading and is therefore wasting their time according to schoolhabits.com. Using the notes and the textbook is necessary in order to apply the information, but the students are not retaining and applying any of the information.

The best study habits to apply while studying for midterms will depend on the person, but a great start is to set the stage for yourself, followed by rewriting notes and applying them into scenarios, however the worst habit to have while studying is just relying on the textbook and the notes to tell you everything. While studying, give yourself some variety as the classes approach the midterm exams.
