Everyone knows about the boy band One Direction and how they split up in 2016. Unfortunately, a member of the old band, Liam Payne died on Oct.16 from falling off a balcony in CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina and it has had an effect on his fans.
Payne first started to get famous from joining One Direction in 2010 after The X Factor. Originally, all the One Direction members got cut, but judge Simon Cowell thought they were too talented to go home and put them all together in a band.
“I love One Direction because their music is really incredible, and I also still listen to them. They were my favorite band growing up and I loved all the members of their band,” sophomore Lola McDaniel said.
People found out about his death from many different social media platforms. The media was grieving for the loss and for his family and friends. He had a son named Bear Payne, who is 7 years old and was in a relationship with Kate Cassidy.
“I found out from a video on TikTok saying how he had passed but it was originally believed he fell from a balcony,” sophomore Emma Barker said.
Fans were devastated when they heard the news and were really shocked that someone so young died that early. Payne was born on Aug. 29, 1993 and passed away on Oct.16 2024, so he was only 31 years old, according to CBS News.
“When I heard the news that he died I was sad and started crying. I couldn’t believe that someone who’s music I have been listening to for years passed away,” McDaniel said.
Many of Payne’s friends and family members posted sincere words for when he died. They also shared all their memories and pictures with him to honor and in memory of him.
“I thought Zayn Malik and surprisingly Simon Cowell’s responses on Instagram were the most heartfelt. I was disappointed by Harry Style’s since he seemed very formal and he spoke as if they were simply just work colleagues,” Barker said.
A lot of people listened to One Direction when they were children and grew up listening to them. Their music can bring back old memories and remind many people of their childhood when listening to it now. Also, ever since Payne died their music has been getting played more in memory of him.
“I used to listen to One Direction when I was younger a lot, then for some time I stopped. A year or so ago, it brought back childhood memories, so I began to listen to some of their music again. Now that Liam has passed, I will listen to them a lot more,” Barker said.
