Election day lands on November 5th this year and it is coming up fast. Due to the fact that the election is sooner rather than later, it is very important to educate the youth on politics for the future of the United States.

“I feel like it’s nice to see the world you are growing up in because I’ll only be 19 for the next election and if I didn’t understand what world I’m living in and what’s important to my personal needs then I wouldn’t choose what’s right for my country.” Said John Allard, a sophomore at Orange.

In order to make an informed decision taking a look at both candidates’ policies, Donald Trump of the republican party, and Kamala Harris of the democratic party, starting with economics

“In terms of economics, Donald Trump’s policies make far more sense for the average citizen in our country. This is because he along with the rest of the republican party advocates for tax cuts on both the individuals and businesses of America.” Said Neil Patel, a man who ran for senator for the republican party.

The republicans guiding philosophy when it comes to economics is to lessen government enacting by tax cuts while simultaneously trying their best to increase job opportunities for all Americans.

“Harris is going to make healthcare and living costs more affordable and cut down on taxes and grocery costs with a ban on corporate food price gouging. I agree with it because it’s more beneficial for the middle class, which is a high percentage of Americans, “said John Allard,

As for the policies on abortion both of the candidates differ just as much.

“Harris has taken note of the rising teen pregnancy rates and has started pushing for abortion rights nationwide before she was even running and I align with it cause in a free country we should have reproductive freedom too.” Said John Allard

Republicans, such as Donald Trump on the other hand will usually advocate for abortion to be up to the state to handle.

“After Roe v. Wade was overturned abortion ended up becoming a state by state issue. The Donald Trump administration advocates for this scenario to a great extent as well.” Said Neil Patel

Stepping away from policies, an important part of a future president is how charismatic they naturally are. It is pertinent for a president to exemplify positive traits to the rest of the world. Whether it be from power, humor, or even just the understanding of the American people.

“I personally like Kamala as a candidate because she has been working a lot towards making living costs and healthcare more affordable which is something that my family struggles with, ” Said John Allard.

Harris shows her understanding of the American people through her policies. By making healthcare more affordable for more people. This greatly displays her genuine empathy towards fellow americans.

“Donald Trump is a great example of a powerful leader. The way he is able to influence ties between some of the United States greatest rivals such as North Korea and Russia shows great promise for the future if he does become president.” Said Neil Patel

Both candidates show strong leadership qualities, whether it be through empathy or usage of power through charisma.
