There are a lot of new movies being released this October, all of them are sequels to some of the past really popular films. Let’s highlight three of the upcoming movies that will be released.
Starting out with “Joker: Folie à Deux”, which was released on Oct. 4, and left theaters on Oct.17.
This movie is another addition to the well-known “Joker” movie series; it shows the origin story of the Joker, how the failed comedian met this doctor and the two would later turn out to be the beloved Joker and Harley Quinn. This movie is getting a lot of fame over popular celebrity Lady Gaga, casted as the beloved Harley Quinn.
“I don’t think that it’s nearly as like classic Harley Quinn,” Junior and Cinemark Theater employee Preston Bronder said, “It was a combination of the celebrity status she has as well as the award presence.”
Some people are excited to see the character being played by a popular celebrity.
“In my opinion, an actor can only do as good as the script they’re given. I care more about the director than who plays what,” junior Sam Perez said.
“Joker” the movie was released back in 2019, and the movie became insanely popular, and received a lot of love and even two Oscars. Since then, they have made more movies in the “Joker” series.
Moving on to “Terrifier 3”, which will be released Oct. 11. “Terrifier 3” is another slasher film that follows the well-known Art the Clown as he torments another town. This movie was in theaters until Oct. 17.
“I’ve never been like super big into horror but I would say that I am a little bit excited for some of these sequels, and like Terrifier for example I’m excited for,” Bronder said.
Art the Clown has been a popular character in the horror movie fandom, since the first time he was seen in a short film. Since then, he has appeared in lots of movies and games, and even has his own series, the “Terrifier” series, and this will be the fifth film he has appeared in.
However, the movie was in some hot water before it was released due to the trailer, which showed Art the Clown killing a child.
“I don’t really mind the depiction; this isn’t something unique to ‘Terrifier’. Think about ‘IT’ and how a boy dying was in every trailer for the movie,” Perez said.
Despite this trailer, this movie is said to be a huge box office hit, just like the last two films in the series with the most recent “Terrifier 2” making $15 million worldwide.
In 2022, the movie “Smile” was released and the internet loved it; now the second movie is being released this month on Oct. 18. It follows a pop star about to start their exciting world tour but begins to experience horrifying things. Overwhelmed by all the horrors and her rapidly increasing pressures of stardom, she is forced to face her past.
“Smile 2” will still be in theaters until Halloween, so tickets will only be available for a few more days. Time’s ticking.
“I couldn’t care about ‘Smile 2,” Bronder said. “The novelty and goodness of ‘Smile 1’ was that it was a new thing, I don’t think it needed to be done over.”
There can be issues that arise when all the recent movies being released are just sequels, instead of being their own stand-alone films.
“For most movies, the sequels don’t perform much better than the previous movie just by the nature of degrading interest, but I expect some of them to do pretty well,” Perez said.
