After the regular soccer season is over, there is a tournament for girls soccer. This year the first game was on Oct. 17. In previous years the team went very far in the tournament.
Last year, the team started with a very beatable schedule, in the first round it played Central Crossing and won 8-0. But the team ended up losing in district finals to Dublin Jerome.
“Our first game is against Olentangy and after that it depends on who beats what teams. But I think we are going to play Berlin after Olentangy,” freshman varsity soccer player Sylvia Ames said.
The girls often talk about how a good attitude and energy will help them win games. Going into the tournament they played Olentangy which was exciting because they knew that they could win, and they did.
“It’s going to be really fun. We have a really good team atmosphere, and I think we are going to do really well and go really far,” varsity soccer player Cate Woolard said
Since the team won its first game, it will play Olentangy Berlin on Oct. 24 at Big Walnut High School. Berlin has a very similar record to Olentangy and even tied them previously in the season.
“We will make it decently far in the tournament and if we try our best and work really hard we could go far,” Woolard said.
The upcoming game is district finals and if they win, the next game would be classified as a regional semi finals on Oct. 29. The tournament will keep going until they lose a game. Though it will end at states.
“The tournament goes on for a couple weeks at a time. Usually finishes around the beginning of November,” Ames said.
If the girls team works hard, they could win many games. They all believe in a good team atmosphere which is what really wins games.
