DECA held the school’s second annual Powderpuff game on Oct. 1 after being postponed a week due to weather. All four grades were represented with freshmen in purple, sophomores in green, juniors in blue, and seniors in pink.

The first of three games started with the freshmen and seniors at 4:30 p.m. on Orange Middle School’s football field with quarterback senior Jordyn Pelles leading the seniors to a big win.

“The first game was a very good game. It was competitive and fun,” Pelles said.

With a spot in the championship the seniors watched the freshmen and juniors play after their game.

The freshmen fought hard in their first powderpuff game but came up short losing round one to the juniors. The junior’s running back Rylee Bokesch had two touchdowns to help their victory.

“During the first game, we did a really good job with running our plays. Our defense also did a good job,” Bokesch said.

The championship game started at 6:20 p.m. with the seniors seeking redemption from last year’s championship game. However, this game went their way with a blowout win 36-8.

“It was nice to win the championship because we lost it last year in a very close game to the seniors. It was fun to celebrate with all the girls who played,” Pelles said.

DECA senior Claire Jenkins was one of the students who helped organize the event.

“We wanted to bring powderpuff back because it was gone for a while, and we thought it would be a good way to raise money. Also, our sisters had powderpuff when they were in high school and said it was very fun,” Jenkins said.

Spectators and players were able to enjoy ice cream from Little Ladies Soft Serve and tacos from Dos Hermanos taco truck during the event. Powderpuff was a huge success raising around $17,000 for the Cancer support community.
