Melanie Martinez has gained a lot of fame for her new PORTALS tour, while at the same time accusations from her past have come back to light.
Martinez is a singer and songwriter who first became popular after she appeared on “The Voice” in 2012, and since then has made hit songs and very popular movies.
Martinez has already been in some hot water for some of her tour merch, specifically that a single 4.3 oz candle should not cost $60, according to “Melanie Martinez official store”.
She faced even more controversy after her ex-friend Timothy Heller revived her sexual assault allegations from 2017, saying Martinez assaulted her in June 2015, according to an X post made by Heller.
When Heller spoke up against Martinez in 2017, she was shooed off the internet by the artist’s fans and stopped producing music because of crazy fans according to “The Direct”.
Heller is also a musician who first started posting music in October 2017, with her single “Sleep”. She was also a very close friend of Martinez before these allegations were released.
Heller posted to X once in November 2017, hinting that something happened between the two singers but not actually admitting anything.
“She never said no to what (they) chose to do together,” Martinez responded on X when these allegations came out. As a result, fans were displeased with her response. Recently when Timothy Heller rekindled these allegations in an interview, she said this response to these accusations was “quite validating.”
In July 2024, Heller posted on TikTok to bring back her story since she was run off the internet when she first spoke up about her sexual assault.
People now have taken her accusations more seriously, and it seems more people are believing her this time.
Some Martinez fans have stopped listening and supporting her since these allegations have resurfaced, while other fans have stuck with the artist claiming that it was proven wrong before and will be proven wrong again.
The timing of when Heller brings these allegations up is sparking questions, since both times she has brought up these allegations it has been when Martinez is very popular.
In 2017, Martinez got popular because of her recently finished “Crybaby” tour, and currently she is gaining popularity over her ongoing “PORTALS” tour.
Some believe that because of these correlations Heller just doesn’t like how successful her ex-friend is, so she made up a bad lie about her ex-friend.
It doesn’t make sense why this correlation would mean the allegations are false, far from it. If someone did something as serious as sexual assault and they got popular, their victim would share their story because don’t think they deserve fame.
Going back to both artists’ posts from the day Heller claimed the assault happened, it was found the two were in completely different places. Later Heller explained how she gave the wrong date, that was enough for people to say she was lying again.
The artists should take these allegations seriously and take them to court instead of fighting them on the internet, regardless of what actually happened.
