In its second league game of the season, the Orange Softball team put their foot down and run-ruled Upper Arlington on their turf, 13-2. In the third inning, the girls scored 8 runs to seal the deal. The game ended in 5 innings.
The game started off close, back and forth between both teams. Upper Arlington took the lead 2-1 in the first, but the Pioneers came back and scored 2 to take the lead in the top of the second. In the bottom of the third, the girls completely took over and scored 8 runs to make the lead 11-2. From then on, the Pioneers scored 1 run in both the fourth and the fifth, and held Upper Arlington to none.
Seniors Kennedy Reed and Madison Yanka both had 3 run doubles in the bottom of the third to keep the momentum on Orange’s side. “I got up to the plate thinking about the situation and what I could do to help the team score the most runs,” Reed said.
The girls tallied 10 hits in the game. Juniors Jalen Wehler, Gauri Naik and Jordyn Pelles each collected 2 hits in the game. Naik also drove in three runs.
“I had to keep a clear mind on the mound and at the plate. The game went really well for us, and we have had a great start to conference play, going 2-0,” pitcher Naik said.
The team will continue conference play on Friday versus Hilliard Bradley, at home. It will attempt to keep the momentum flowing.
“Our energy was great the whole game and it really helped everyone perform better I feel like,” Pelles said, “I hope we can continue that through the rest of the season and especially conference games.”
