Club Update

There is a vast array of clubs to join here at Orange, with many of them catering to specific  student interests. Clubs such as Black Empowerment and Between the Lines are among the many opportunities to interact with other students who share similar interests.

Black empowerment club discusses black history and situations African Americans face in today’s society, while preparing for their assembly in February.

“Basically, we have been getting to know each other, and designing new logos for our club shirts,” a member of the club, Diamond Agioubu said. “The theme for the assembly this year is black resistance.”

Additionally, a new club called, Between the Lines, was founded by senior Eleni Rores. “ I want to create a space for readers at orange to come together and discuss books that they are actually interested in reading. We have snacks and baked goods at the clubs and just chat; it’s a place of comradery.” Rores said. Between the Lines meets in room 2217 once every 2 weeks.

Thanksgiving Break Plans

With Thanksgiving break right around the corner, many students are looking forward to spending time with family and eating good food. With the amount of diversity at Orange, not all celebrate this holiday.

For some who celebrate, the holiday is a time for families to spend together.

“I usually go to my great-grandma’s house with my family. When we get there she is cooking literally everything — noodles, mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing. Then before we eat, she says a prayer then we just hang out the rest of the time.” Kendall Edwards, a senior said.

“My family and I usually gather at my aunt’s house and we just cram down and have a good time. We have turkey, stuffing, and lots of desert. We also practice a tradition of giving each other gag gifts. I got a water balloon thrown at me one year. Most times we usually watch the Thanksgiving parade to wind down after.” Said Sophia Bobay, also a senior.

For others, their holiday plans might be different.

When asked about thanksgiving plans, Roma Yadav, a junior said, “I usually just relax at home. It’s like summer break but in November,” junior Roma Yadav said.
